The world of art in 2017 is a very diverse place with countless mediums, artists and stories behind every work; the recent rise in interest in mindfulness and popularity of digital drawing has inspired a new kind of geometric and colourful art, celebrating and exploring each artists own awakening.
Spirituality and mindfulness is not a new concept, with roots dating back to over 2500 years ago in the Buddha 's early teachings, however the last few years have seen a rise in the popularity of consciousness, mindfulness and spirituality globally, growing in popularity as an everyday practice in western life. This mass increase in followers that are waking up to the world and themselves, are turning to art to express this experience.

Practising mindfulness involves paying more attention to the present moment, your own thoughts and feelings (without judging them) and to the world around you, as well as a feeling a sense of 'waking up' to the world and the possibility of higher/other dimensions and beings. This is channelled into artwork with the pieces often revolving around this new sense of self or the world, often resulting in brightly coloured geometric patterns, flowing lines and a humanoid shape as well as following space, the universe and 'trippy' themes.
Alex Grey is a visionary artist at the head of the transformational movement, he creates spirituality inspired art in many forms including: paintings, drawings, sculptures, performances, writing, audio and even VR based digital artwork. Alex's work in inspired by his own journey of waking up to the world around him and often features people intertwined with geometric lines and flowing colours 'portrayals of the multi-dimensional imaginal realms that pull us toward consciousness evolution'
Alex's artwork continues to receive a very positive reaction from his audience as well as growing popularity with his work even featuring on American rock band Tool's 'Lateralus' album cover.
Marc Zimmermann is a digital artist and digital matte painter who often delves into the world of spirituality within his art with works such as 'Expanding consciousness' having achieved popularity on social media websites. Marc uses his paintings to explore himself and the world around him, also creating environmental concept paintings alongside his consciousness work. Marc's work often feature an array of colourful space and cosmos imagery, elements from the environment and the human mind, portraying the human head space as full of the universe.
These are but a few of the many creatives involved in the spiritual art movement, and as consciousness increases in popularity and technology progresses, artists will continue to find new and inspiring ways to express their spiritual journey and awakening through art.
